Bifocals, the perspective of the Believer

My sister in Christ posed an excellent question, "Is it possible to be “over-educated?

I often think about how merciful God is to not overwhelm us with all the future concerns of our lives, let alone the universe.

Sometimes we get frustrated when we see but through a hole in the fence, especially during hard times. But the more I consider it, trust in a sovereign God is completely freeing. Not of responsibility, but of worry.

I was considering the fact that Scripture tells us to do two things:

1. "Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself." (Matt 6:34) NASB

2. "Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory." (Col 3:2-3) NASB

One says don't worry about tomorrow, and the other holds captive our minds to the time when we will be with Christ for eternity.

So what is the proper perspective?

The answer comes near the first:

"Continually seek His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you" (Matt 6:33)

Suddenly, I realize that the Kingdom of God has past, present and future perspectives that overlap. By seeing God's provision for His people in the past in His word, and believing His promises for the future which are founded on the character that He has personally revealed to use through the Holy Spirit we can live one day at a time.

In truth, the Colossians 3:1-4 passage about our eternal place in Christ precedes a passage also exhorting that this eternal perspective should affect the way we live now in every sphere of our time here (Col
3:5-4:1).

So in a way, not attempting to find out all the possible concerns before trusting God could be considered an example of a case where "knowing less" is good.... on the other hand it is MORE KNOWLEDGE of God that allows us to lay aside those concerns regardless of how many seeped into our brain. :)

Of course it is more than knowledge, knowledge must least to FAITH. (Eph 3:14-19)
