More Outrage Surrounding Nick Berg

I am still outraged at the brutal murder of Nick Berg (which, now appears to have taken place in Iraq, at the hands of al-Zarqawi, perhaps in Fallusia), but the anger is transferring to ... you guessed it ... the US media.

But why?

Let’s take a look at what is not being reported. They have not shown the video. This does not seem like a big deal because it’s on the internet; believe it or not, only 15-20% of Americans are online. Maybe this falls under FCC concerns, graphic violence cannot be shown on network television (however, FCC regulations are so vague that certain words can be used in certain contexts but not in others; generally, a “bad” word cannot be used in reference to sex, defication or referencing body parts, but can be used to express emotion (cf. Bono’s “this is f***ing brilliant)).

What is their motivation? Simply, airing the video would enrage the public. DUH! It should insense people; BUT this would galvanize people to the war effort and the press cannot allow that.

Still, that’s only the general type of outrage; the media constantly ignores important news that would rally people to a cause. Big outrage comes at what they are reporting: Michael Berg. Nick’s father, who is anti-war/anti-Bush, is getting major coverage. Why? Because he is blaming the Bush administration for his son’s death.

The media has glazed over the real story which is the brutal murder of an US citizen and found the only spin on this story that reflects badly on Bush. What the .... oops. What a stench rises from the mouths of the media. It’s like blaming your coffee maker for making you late, which put you in the path of a semi. Had you only left on time, you would have missed the truck.

I’m sorry .. well, not really ... but the media has missed the boat. Let’s us a cliche, they’ve missed the forest for the trees.
