But the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytising faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science - the science against which it had vainly struggled - the civilisation of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilisation of ancient Rome."

This was written by a young Winston Churchill in 1899

He had a grasp of the problem that borders on intolerant by modern standards. He understood that our enemy is not a race, it is an idea. Islam is the problem, and it always will be. It is not that Arabs or Egyptians or whoever are evil, it is that their religion, in their minds, is absolute and requires the absolute conversion or conquest of the world.

It is unfortunate that this eloquent voice of reason is no longer with us. He fought the terror of Nazi Fascism, it is now our turn to fight Terror.
