If you find yourself, as I do, storing up bookmarks in a "to blog" category? Then I have a tool for you. There are no more excuses for blogging about something as you find it.
JustBlogIt with a simple right-click.
JustBlogIt is a Mozilla / Firefox extension to allow easy right-click posting to a weblog. From any website your new blog post is only a right-click away.
It has rudimentary support for Drupal. Here are some basic instructions for setting it up for use with shadyvale.org.
- Install the extension from the JustBlogIt Website.
- Restart your browser.
- Right click on some text on a web page you would like to blog about, and select "JustBlogIt!" from the menu.
- The first time you do so, you will be prompted to set up which blog you would like to post to. (If you want to make changes later you'll have to go to the extensions manager in the tools menu highlight the extension and select "options".) Establish the following settings to post to shadyvale.org:
- Select weblog type: Drupal
- Full URL of your site: http://shadyvale.org
- Node Type: blog
- Click okay and you will be sent to your blog (assuming you log in) and the body of the post will include whatever you highlighted. Make sure to select a Subject and title the post.
You may have realized that this does nothing more than highlight and past into a new blog entry, but it could save you some time. The other weblog types offer more settings for choosing categories and such, perhaps the drupal support will improve over time. Also missing is perhaps a drop down of multiple blogs. I actually maintain a workblog as well. As it stands I can only configure JustBlogIt to use one site at a time.
I don't know, but a simple tool like this is a reminder that blogging in little blurbs is better than not blogging at all. You can always go back and add more later. In fact, in newer versions of drupal which I will hopefully be upgrading to soon, offer saving a post to a "draft" so that can finish up later.
There are other more sophisticated desktop blogging tools, but I haven't found any that meet my needs completely. I kind of like the simplicity of having it integrated with the browser.

Doesn't support multiple sites/profiles
Forgot to thank Cyberdash for bringing this tool to my attention.
Also posted to the JustBlogIt author's blog about the missing multiple profile functionality.
