No, I don't want you to tell me who you're voting for, whether it's a congressional seat or minister of dog catching; but, I am curious as to why you vote.
I had this conversation a while back and found it interesting. Someone, who I thought more more politically "center," surprised me with his view on voting. He said that it was his intention to vote according to the issues. We agreed that we are both Libertarian in our thinking, but he was choosing to vote L and I wasn't. The rationals are plain enough, I don't want to waste my vote and he wants to vote his "conscience."
So, I put the question to you, dear reader: how do you vote? In November some of us will vote for a minority party because we truly agree with their politics of philosphy, some will vote for one of the majors for the same reason; some of us will vote for the party opposite our normal pattern because we feel let down; some of us will vote because we hope this guy is not as bad as the other guy (the lesser of two evils); some of us will be strategic and vote to win.
For me, I speak my conscious but I vote strategically. I am a libertarian, small "L". I agree with more of their policies than the Republicans proper, but I can't vote for them. Until such time that my vote will help them gain 3%, and thereby acquire public funding for their campaigns, I can't waste my vote. I vote to win, as futile as it may be at times.
