Performancing

Great tool for blogging, especially for those who want to be a little freer in the where and when.

Check out the performancing add-on for Firefox. Very cool extension which allows you, within the browser, write and publish blogs remotely. Here's the idea, you are looking at a cool website, you hit F8 and Performancing pops up. Type in your blog, drag images from the web page into the UI, and it takes care of linking to the image source.

Awesome all around so far. Combined with FF2's spell check and my blogging ration just jumped.

Okay, I'm Excited Even If You Think It's Boring

So, I'm monkeying around with Blogger, mostly because somewhere along the way Google got a hold of my soul (somehow tied into the YouTube buy...I think), but also because I see some real potential for using as a free tool with our youth group (for more on that click).

Anyway, I'm launching a page to test my skills and post comments from time to time (I know, disloyalty to the Vale). But my newest l33t skill is embedding YouTube (or GoogleTube...whatever) directly into the blog. It's ubber cool, at least for me since it's handled at the code level which means I get to learn a little more HTML.

JustBlogIt

If you find yourself, as I do, storing up bookmarks in a "to blog" category? Then I have a tool for you. There are no more excuses for blogging about something as you find it.

JustBlogIt with a simple right-click.

JustBlogIt is a Mozilla / Firefox extension to allow easy right-click posting to a weblog. From any website your new blog post is only a right-click away.

It has rudimentary support for Drupal. Here are some basic instructions for setting it up for use with shadyvale.org.

What is the theme and purpose of this website?

I have been pondering this shadyvale.org experiment a bit. I threw up this site, and encouraged friends to start their own blogs. To highlight blog posts that are interesting, we have promoted them to the front page.

Over time the promoted stories have built up, and so I have just trimmed them back to some of the highlights of a broad range of topics. Perhaps my thought is that the majority of the entries on the site have been political, when I think that we have much more to offer about our personal and spiritual lives.

So rather than struggling with this thought, I have decided to blog about it.
